From Silk Waste to Sustainable Creativity

As part of the Environment Education Programme (EEP), a hands-on workshop was organised in Charaideo to introduce Eco-Club members to the creative reuse of waste cocoons generated during silk production and processing.

Participants explored ways to transform discarded cocoons into attractive decorative items, turning a locally available waste material into useful and creative products.

The activity promoted the principles of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, while encouraging students to explore sustainable resource utilisation, creativity and innovative approaches to waste management.

By connecting Assam’s rich sericulture tradition with practical environmental education, the initiative demonstrated how local waste materials can be transformed into new possibilities through creativity and skill development.

From silk waste to creative products—giving discarded cocoons a new life.
