To address the issue, students noticed a serious issue—public taps left open or leaking, leading to massive wastage of water. Out of 62 taps surveyed, 27 were without cocks and 16 had leakages. This meant nearly 16,500 litres of water wasted every single day—that’s 4,95,000 litres a month!
Determined to take action, the students launched the campaign “Save Water” under the Mission LiFE theme. Through rallies, slogans, and Nukkad Natak (street plays), they spread awareness in their community. But they didn’t stop there—these young changemakers pooled their own pocket money to buy 20 taps and 12 rubber washers, repairing and replacing faulty ones.
They also trained community members in basic tap repair, ensuring sustainability of their efforts. Inspired by their campaign, they reached out to other schools in Raipur, encouraging them to replicate the initiative.
Outcome & Impact:
- Significant reduction in water wastage in the locality.
- Strengthened community participation in water conservation.
- The project has been showcased at the State Level National Science Congress and Eco-Club Exhibition.
- Enhanced awareness among students and local residents on the importance of saving every drop of water.
The message is clear: Water is precious. Every drop saved is a step towards sustainability.
Let’s take inspiration from these students—next time you see a leaking tap, don’t just walk away. Take action. Because together, we can save millions of litres and secure our future.
