Amrit-Rup & Earth’s Embrace: Students Reviving Eco-Friendly Idol Traditions

Festivals are moments of joy, devotion, and togetherness, but they should also be kind to our planet. Eco-Club students from Nandan Nagar H.S. School and Ramthakur Pathshala Girls H.S. School in Agartala, West Tripura, showed how tradition and sustainability can go hand in hand.

At Nandan Nagar H.S. School, students crafted Laxmi Mata and Ganesh idols entirely from natural clay and eco-friendly colors extracted from turmeric, beetroot, bougainvillaea, leafy greens, and rice powder. In just three days, over 60 students created 15 biodegradable idols, proving that celebrations can be toxin-free and beautiful.

At Ramthakur Pathshala Girls H.S. School, students revived the traditional craft of Durga idol making with clay, avoiding Plaster of Paris and synthetic paints. Their initiative highlighted safe, eco-friendly immersion practices and empowered girls to lead the way in sustainable traditions.

Impact at a glance:

  • Zero-pollution immersions, protecting local water bodies
  • Hands-on learning in sustainable crafts & natural color extraction
  • Revived traditional skills & connected with cultural heritage
  • Inspired families and local communities to adopt eco-friendly idols

These young changemakers remind us that festivals can celebrate faith, culture, and the environment together.
